I wear a lot of hats Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform. You are responsible for any damage to your machine. This is a guide to removing the HD of the Aspire Revo. This will void your warranty. I will assume the you have Acer Aspire R1600 taken the screw out and pulled off the side cover.
Identify the daughterboard with the USB port on it, in the corner. This is immediately under the power button and in fact, the actual power button engaged by that piece of plastic on the outside is on this board. It doesn't take much pressure to get the tab to release, and the board will start to lift off the pins. Remove the four screws in the corners of Acer Aspire R1600 motherboard. Acer Aspire R1600 a note of the orientation of the wires on the CPU fan power mine had a blue wire at the bottom so you can reverse this step and get it plugged back in correctly later.
Now disconnect the fan's power connector. This connector is very small and in a tight spot, so you'll have to work on this.
DO NOT just pull on the wires. I used a small flat bladed screwdriver to pry the connector up a little bit on the accessible side, i.
Make sure you know what you're doing here: Do not pry the female part right off the motherboard itself!!! After I got it dislodged, a slight tug on the wire got it free.

Remove the three small screws holding the fan to the heat sink. Don't remove the screws holding the heat sink itself, yet, but just the screws attaching the Acer Aspire R1600 to the sink. You have to get the fan loose first in order to get at one of the heat sink's screws.
The fan is attached to the heat sink by a black sticker at least mine was which seals the exhaust duct. Do not tear this sticker.

Pick the fan up by its left edge and lift it up from the left side of the Acer Aspire R1600 sink, keeping it attached by this sticker, and let it lay over the case to the right. Unseat but do not fully remove the four screws attaching the heat sink to the motherboard. These screws go through the board and into the case, so it's really only the attachment to the case that you need to be concerned about.

No, it's not that we aren't looking in the right place - we've found screenshots of where it's supposed to be and trust me, it isn't there! I'm assuming that's a software issue but it doesn't affect XBMC or Boxee on my sons' systems because both of those have built-in Acer Aspire R1600 compensation. Other than that, we've had no issues at all with these systems, and the video playback is excellent, particularly in XBMC.
